This day, September 1, 2015, marks seven years since I first began to serve Pilgrim Church as its pastor. It has been challenging at times, but extremely rewarding at all times. I have loved being a part of this marvelous family of faith. I have never felt so loved and cared for in my years of ministry as I feel at Pilgrim. What a blessing Pilgrim is for all of us!
We have moved very successfully through specific tasks over these years. Our first 2 1/3 years together were dedicated to an intentional interim time. This was a pivotal time for Pilgrim as we looked at who we had been and pointed ourselves into a future of faithful, care-filled, loving community building. When that time came to a close I looked forward with my life, beginning with a six week sojourn in Egypt as I began to open myself up to a new call.
Pilgrim, through its Search Committee, had been working diligently seeking a settled pastor. Hours and hours of reading profiles and interviewing potential candidates had ended in disappointing loses of final candidates to other churches. The timing presented a new opportunity, the possibility to ask me to submit my profile. The rest is just our history!
The past five years have been pure joy in every way! We are a thriving, faithful, fun-filled community. We share our hopes and joys; we share our struggles and our sorrow. We are moved to take our faith into the social and political realms of our daily lives. We are all blessed by this beautiful faith community know as Pilgrim.
I love looking forward with our shared lives. We have the opportunity now to participate in a dream of spiritual renewal and focus, The Lilly Endowment Clergy Renewal Programs: An Invitation to Dream. This program invites the congregation and pastor to dream together about what a 3-4 month renewal leave might look like. What activities speak directly to the pastor’s heart, the mission of the congregation and the vitality of the shared ministry between them.
The timing for this is comfortably in front of us, the grant would be written in November of 2015 for a sabbatical in 2017.
I would love to have a group of dreamers working with me to create a plan that would move us with joy and intentionality into many more years sharing in the ministry of Pilgrim Church. Thank you for all you have been to me!
In Christ’s Love,
