FINANCE – At the September Shasta County Interfaith Council (SCIF) meeting, all participating churches were asked to contribute to an advertisement in the Enjoy magazine for the Interfaith Thanksgiving Service in November. A motion was made, seconded and approved to contribute $50.00 to SCIF for this purpose.
Our Treasurer introduced a conversation about income and expenses through August 31, 2016. Council agreed that informing the congregation via our newsletter of our monthly income and expenses would be a good idea. The Stewardship campaign was also discussed. A motion was made to appoint a Stewardship Chair for 2016 and Heather Hennessey was nominated and approved. Glenn Hoxie volunteered to work with her. Three weeks were recommended for a Stewardship Campaign starting November 6 and concluding on Sunday, November 20.
Bank of Commerce says we are not registered with the State as a non-profit organization. It was suggested that our Treasurer check with our UCC Conference office about the pros and cons of registering as a non-profit.
The Council would like to review the Madrigal Dinner contract. That will be on the agenda for our November Council meeting.
WORSHIP – SCIF Interfaith Service is November 20, 7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church. Pilgrim’s Choir Director is leading the interfaith choir.
Sermon providers are lined up through October 16, 2016. Pastor Ann returns to the pulpit on October 23.
The UCC Fall Gathering is Oct. 15 in Sacramento. Glenn Hoxie, John Egolf and Heather Hennessey may be attending. See Worship CoCo Report online
LEARNING – See Learning CoCo Report online.
LISTENING PROGRAM – 16 interviewers so far with about 80 interviewees. That’s about 40% of the congregation. Kids are being interviewed also and there are some fantastic ideas among them! So far, Housing and Homelessness, Spiritual Growth and Youth (and Young Families) are the top concerns.
SERVING – Next Called to Care meetings are October 16 and November 13 at 11:30 in the Fireside Room following worship.
BUILDING – Discussion continued on softening the acoustics in the Fellowship Hall. A “quiet corner” with room petitions was suggested. Heavier drapes on the windows would be helpful. Acoustic tiles/foam cores on hard surface walls could be added. A Finance Co-co will get some of the latter as an experiment.
Three requests of the Building Co-co’s: Painting of the hallway in the Fellowship wing sometime this winter, cleaning of the Fellowship Hall carpet after the French Country Market, and cleaning of the carpet, by Shasta High, after the Madrigal Dinner.
Lighting issues around the church are being addressed. Our Building Co-co is getting bids for indoor and outdoor repairs/renovations.
CONNECTING – See Connecting CoCo report online.
NOMINATIONS – Elizabeth Betancourt was approved as a new member of the Personnel Committee.
Next Council Meeting will be November 17th at 5:30 p.m.
Meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
