February 2016 Learning Report
As noted in our annual report, Pilgrims are indeed engaged in many learning activities. These will continue through 2016!
An exciting addition to our Early Childhood staff is Nahoko Kawakatsu who will be the lead teacher in our Infant/Toddler room and also a helper in the Pre-school/K room depending on attendance each week. Nahoko is an experienced child care provider and comes highly recommended by the ECE staff at Shasta College. Your learning CoCos were very impressed during her interview and already the parents and little ones love her. Please stop by before or after church to say Hi and to welcome her to Pilgrim Church.
The school age children will be engaging in age-apprpriate Lenten studies in their class with Kaarin downstairs. Lent is a a time to recall the stories of our faith and the children will be exploring readings from the Old and New Testaments. They will learn about a ritual of Thanksgiving, about God’s covenant with Abraham and Sarah, and a song of joy in the Psalms. They will also hear two stories about extravagant love. All of this will kick off on Ash Wednesday, February 10th., during our Family Soup supper. There will be a children’s film for them to view while the adults are viewing “The Way”.
The Faith Forum group is still reading/discussing Catherine Kellar’s “Beyond the Mystery”. We meet Mondays 2 -3:30 pm in the Fireside Room. All are welcome.
The Climate Change film/study series continues this month with a documentary by Naomi Klein based on her book “This Changes Everything”. It will be shown Tues., February 16th, 6:30 pm at First Methodist Church. We had 13 Pilgrims attend last month. We hope even more can make it this month! Call Paula if you need a ride.
