Not present: Pam Crowe, John Crowe, Larry Solberg, Jessica French, Tyler Shuster, Nancy Patterson and Rev. Ann Corrin. A quorum was established.
Minutes – There was an acceptance of the July 28, 2016 council meeting minutes as posted on the pilgrim website.
Replacement for Treasurer Position – Lu Trullinger said that Cajun James has agreed to be Treasurer and she has already trained Cajun twice. Cajun will be making some Church Windows procedural changes such as paying bills online. Lu confirmed that she will still handle FCM this year although she is moving to Susanville this week. A motion was made, seconded and unanimously approved to accept Lu’s resignation as Treasure and to accept the appointment of Cajun James as Treasurer. Lu was thanked again for her years of outstanding service and there will be a pot-luck lunch for her after Sunday service August 21st.
Personnel Committee – Last month Elizabeth Shuster was added to the Personnel Committee to replace Brad Henderson. Now we need a replacement for Lu Trullinger, who is also resigning from Personnel; the Nominating Committee is charged with this task. Paula Kahler, Sue Asbill and Bill Justice are also on the Personnel Committee.
Worship CoCo – Donna said summer intra-church communications regarding Sunday worship has gone very smoothly and with Steele arranging chairs. Last Sunday’s worship attendance was 120 people.
Choir rehearsal will be September 10, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. and they start singing during worship on Sept. 11th. Child care will start at 8:30 a.m. on that Sunday for those in the choir who have small children.
Learning Co-Cos – Kelly moved her things out of the nursery on August 14th and it is being set up for Nohoko.
CBO Listening Program – Andrea said Elizabeth Betancourt has done a great job setting this up and interviews are now underway with some consolidation expected starting in September.
Building Update – John Egolf said that a new water heater installed at a cost of $580.
An AED was purchased and installed in the alcove to the restrooms. Instruction class will be taught by Karen Lightfoot RN, PhD
He has added motion sensor switches to the new fans in the restrooms. He is converting outside security lights to programmable timers, which will improve security. Bob Wagner will also be replacing the parking area lights.
Mr. Anderson has been contracted to paint sealant on the northwesterly concrete walkway before winter.
An Outdoor Work Day was set for September 17th at 9 a.m. We need to redo the bark areas before FCM.
Improving noise control in Fellowship Hall was discussed. Solutions are limited due to the low ceiling, a long window wall and limited wall space, but heavier, lined drape side panels and/or movable sound sound panels could be added. Concern was expressed to not obscure the windows and make it more dark in Fellowship Hall, nor to add any make-shift hanging panels that would not be aesthetically pleasing. It was suggested that an interior designer be hired to make recommendations.
A motion that was seconded and unanimously approved for John Egolf to investigate adding a guard gate to the upper parking lot, setback from the street. John will also look into lower parking lot asphalt patching where cuts were made by Redding Water.
Serving CoCos – It has been relatively quite during the summer. Barbara is writing Joys and Concerns for the monthly newsletter and Heather is writing congregant profiles, introducing both new and long-time members. Called to Care meeting is scheduled for August 28th at 11:30 a.m.
Connecting CoCos – Kathleen Foley has agreed to coordinate sending out monthly SignUp Genius emails for Hope Outreach on the 3rd Friday. Help is still needed for making coffee and pulling the trailer to Breslauer.
Finance CoCos – Bob Cross reported that giving has been good that past few weeks and he received a nice letter from Roger Bland saying that the estate will fulfill Marge’s 2016 pledge.
Correspondence: Moderator Tere Hancock read to Council a long letter from Roger Ashbaugh, who lives in San Mateo and is the son of Barbara Ashbaugh, one of Pilgrim’s founding members. After thoughtful discussion a motion was passed, seconded and unanimously approved to respond that “Council does not share his assessment of Pilgrim’s ministry strategy and does not envision ever building out the original FLW-designed sanctuary; neither do we welcome nor will we accept donations from individuals or the Frank Lloyd Wright Revival Initiative for that purpose – only for maintenance and refurbishing of the existing building.”
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 7:00 p.m. Next meeting is scheduled for September 29, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. in Fireside Room.
